The Portland Trail Blazers suffered a shocking loss at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks on the road, Tuesday night. However, the defeat may be the least of their worries for now as their star point guard in Damian Lillard suffered an ankle injury near the end of the matchup.
With a few minutes remaining in the game, Lillard rolled his ankle upon landing at the foot of Mavs big man Salah Mejri. Despite In spite of what happened, Lillard continued to play and went on to finish the game. Understandably so, this was a game that the Blazers had no business losing, especially when one factors in how right the Western Conference playoff race has been.
Still, the Mavs proved to be too much for the Blazers. It was all about their aggressiveness this time, outshooting from long distance and outrunning Portland en route to a 115-109 outcome.
Article Continues BelowAfter the game, Lillard spoke about his injury, hinting at potentially resting it for the tougher battles come playoff time, per Jason Quick of NBCS Northwest.
“I think I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I’m going to be smart about it. It’s the end of the season, we’re going into playoffs so I have to be smart that one thing doesn’t turn into another.”
Upon heading to the team bus, Quick also reported that Lillard had to be transported using a cart. The Blazers have four games remaining on their schedule and the playoffs start on April 14th. Without Lillard, Shabazz Napier will be relied upon to pick up the slack for the time being.
