Kanter split last season playing for the New York Knicks and the Blazers. He averaged 13.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists. He is one of the better centers available in the market, so it is no surprise that Portland, Boston, and other teams would want to acquire him.
Article Continues BelowLast season, Kanter's overall performance was highlighted by his stellar play in the postseason, where he stepped up for the injured Jusuf Nurkic and helped the Blazers reach the Western Conference Finals. He was able to stand his ground against some of the best big men in the league, including Oklahoma City Thunder's Steven Adams and Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic. What's more impressive is that he endured a bruised hand and a separated shoulder and he still had some big moments.
Aside from the Blazers and the Celtics, the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly interested in Kanter as well, as they plan to surround LeBron James and Anthony Davis with a great supporting cast should they miss out on top free agents Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler.
The Blazers will most certainly want to keep Kanter back, but they understand that the competition for him will be tough. Nevertheless, if the Turkish big man believe that they can go even further next season, he might decide to come back.
