DeMar DeRozan has had his share of detractors over the course of his nine-year NBA career. His critics often point to his lack of a 3-point shot or that his mid-range-oriented game no longer fits in with this modern pace-and-space era of NBA basketball.
But according to DeRozan, he has learned to block out the noise of people constantly telling him what he should and shouldn’t do and has instead gone about doing things at his own pace.

After years' worth of calls for DeRozan to add more 3-point shooting to his game, he has finally begun to do so this season. He’s hitting a career-best 35 percent from beyond the arc on three attempts per game.
While his critics might say it’s about time he finally expanded his game further out, that hardly seems to matter to DeRozan. He is launching 3-pointers at a more frequent rate because he has now gotten to the point where he’s comfortable doing so and not because people have hounded him to.
DeRozan was wise to tune out all the chatter surrounding him. At the end of the day, he likely knows what's best for his game and it won't do him much good to keep listening to strangers who don't know what's going on with him behind the scenes.
