The last 15 years has not treated the Sacramento Kings and their fans very well. The Kings have not reached the NBA playoffs since the 2005-2006 season, the longest drought in league history. To make things a bit more painful, ESPN pointed out that there is not a current player in the NBA that has ever played a playoff game against the Kings.

Now, during that time there have been numerous mistakes made by the franchise. Most recently, passing on Luka Doncic for Marvin Bagley Jr (who is now with the Detroit Pistons) likely tops the list. They also drafted Tyreke Evans over Stephen Curry, Ben McLemore over Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nik Stauskas ahead of Zach LaVine and Willie Cauley-Stein over Devin Booker.

But an argument can be made that the Kings had their best offseason in a very long time.

Sacramento drafted Keegan Murray out of Iowa with the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Murray looked fantastic during the NBA Summer League, taking home MVP honors averaging over 23 points per game.

The Kings also signed Malik Monk and acquired Kevin Huerter via trade. Monk is considered one of the best defensive guards in the NBA, which was a huge liability for Sacramento last season. Meanwhile, Huerter is a dead-eye three point shooter.

The starting five currently is De'Aaron Fox, Huerter, Harrison Barnes, Murray and Domantas Sabonis. The second unit consists of Davion Mitchell, who had a very good rookie season last year, Monk, Jeremy Lamb, Trey Lyles and Richaun Holmes. That has the makings of a very talented squad with a new, defensive minded head coach in Mike Brown. Don't sleep on Sacramento this year. A playoff push is coming.
