The Sacramento Kings further strengthened their chances to secure a spot in the NBA Play-in Tournament after pulling off an upset victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday night at Rocket Arena in Cleveland.
The Kings leaned on star shooting guard Zach LaVine's brilliant offensive night to score a 120-113 win against the top team of the Eastern Conference. The 30-year-old LaVine led Sacramento with 37 points, with all his buckets coming from the field. He shot 15-for-21 from the floor and 7-for-11 from behind the arc. Without needing a free throw to reach that point total, LaVine managed to make franchise history as well.
“The most points in a game without any free throw attempts in Kings franchise history,” shared StatMamba in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
LaVine did most of his damage in the second half where he scored 22 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the field while making all of his six attempts from 3-point distance. But he also got plenty of help, particularly from DeMar DeRozan, who scored 20 of his 28 points in the final two quarters of the contest. Meanwhile, Domantas Sabonis had 27 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. On a side note, DeRozan surpassed NBA legend Jerry West for the 26th spot in the league's all-time scoring list after hitting a free throw with a little over five minutes left in the third period.

It is also worth noting that the Kings have successfully completed a two-game regular-season sweep of the Cavaliers. Sacramento defeated Cleveland at home on Mar. 19, with both LaVine and Sabonis sidelined at that time for varied reasons.
The Kings have won just three of their last 10 games but are now on a two-game win streak to improve to 38-40 — good for ninth in the Western Conference standings, where the Dallas Mavericks are 10th with a 38-41 record. The Phoenix Suns entered Sunday with a 35-42 record, two games outside of the play-in picture.
Up next for LaVine and the Kings is their final road game of the 2024-25 NBA regular season which will be against the Detroit Pistons this coming Monday night before heading home to play their last three outings.
