The San Antonio Spurs will be severely shorthanded on Sunday versus the Portland Trail Blazers as Kawhi Leonard will not play on the night. He joins Tony Parker and Rudy Gay on the inactive list while Danny Green remains questionable, according to the team's injury report on their official Twitter account.

Leonard has only played in six games so far after missing the Spurs' first 26 contests due to a quad injury. He has since been on a minutes restriction, only receiving more than 30 minutes of playing time once. The good news for the Spurs is that they have remained one of the top teams in the Western Conference despite not having their best player to start the year. It is also understandable that the Spurs are taking a cautious approach on the two-time All-Star as they want him back to 100 percent health once the playoffs starts.

Kawhi Leonard's shoulder strain is reported to be not a serious one and the Spurs may just be giving him extra time to rest to prevent aggravation. The season is only on its halfway mark and he still has a lot of time to regain his old form as one of the league's best two-way players.

Kyle Anderson is expected to start at the small forward spot and Davis Bertans could also see a usage uptick with Leonard out. LaMarcus Aldridge should once again carry majority of the team's offensive load as the Spurs look to win their second consecutive game and improve their 27-13 record.
