Despite a reported clash between the San Antonio Spurs and star forward Kawhi Leonard, the organization was quick to shut down any talks of trading him before they even started, according to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders.

Even if the two sides had grown distant over the frustration over a quadriceps injury, it wasn't enough to merit a divorced between The Klaw and the Spurs.

“The short version here is that the Spurs are growing frustrated with Leonard’s inability to get right, almost as much as Leonard is frustrated with not being able to get right,” wrote Kyler.

“League sources said their calls on Leonard were shut down before they started, so it’s not likely that San Antonio is ready to do anything drastic with Leonard.”

Leonard has been the key cog in the Spurs' operation after the retirement of Tim Duncan, taking over the mantle as the team's leading scorer and the cornerstone player at both ends of the floor — one that has kept the team from reaching elite status this season.

San Antonio has managed to stay in the third spot of a heavily-contested Western Conference, but the team was swept rather easily last season in the Western Conference Finals without its star forward — which could spell a repeat performance this season if LaMarcus Aldridge can't put the cape on at the right time.

Leonard will be eligible for a designated-player extension in the offseason and he’s only guaranteed to be eligible this summer. If he is unwilling to sign long-term with the organization, maybe these talks of a potential trade will be revisited then.
