The Philadelphia 76ers have continued to stay on the path of maintaining a precautionary approach with rising star center Joel Embiid.

This apparently includes the 23-year-old not participating in practice at this point in time as head coach Brett Brown revealed in a recent interview on The Woj Pod with Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.  (h/t widesheep)

When you look at what he's done and he effectively hasn't practiced. We are moving him forward where he'll get on a normal routine like his teammates are on where you're just like a normal part of the moving parts of a team. Right now, that hasn't happened. We've done everything we can to deliver him to the court on game night. He's obviously a participant in film sessions and walkthroughs. But I think when he's actually practicing and getting his cardio and his basketball rhythm down, I think, “Look out.” I think he's been really strong to date just because he's that good. I think when he starts being with the team more and practicing with his teammates more, then the upside is off the charts.'

The fact that the 76ers are not allowing him to go through practices just yet speaks to his current physical conditioning. He has made it quite clear that he isn't where he would like to be with his conditioning, which hasn't had a great impact on his play on the court as he's still playing at an elite level averaging 23.8 points and 10.9 rebounds with 2.0 blocks in 28 games played.

Philadelphia has continued to keep him out of playing back-to-backs to better preserve his health for the long haul. Until he can prove that he can be in better physical shape with his cardio, this will be the route that the team will take with Embiid.

If he's able to maintain a relatively strong bill of health, it should be a matter of time before he's able to participate fully with the team in practice.
