In a bit of a surprising twist, Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid had his left wrist taped up during Thursday morning's shootaround, according to a report from Keith Pompey of the Philly Inquirer. The former No. 3 overall pick in the Draft (2014) was able to do some light shooting, but received treatment throughout the team's practice.

Pompey spoke to Sixers head coach Brett Brown with regards to Embiid's wrist after shootaround.

“What's wrong with Joel's wrist?” Pompey asked coach Brown.

“I don't think anything (is wrong with it),” coach Brown replied. “I mean, I see that it's taped. I don't know, Keith. I see that it's taped, but I don't know.”

Currently, Embiid, who did not speak to the media about his wrist, is not listed on the Sixers' injury report for Thursday's game against the New York Knicks.

“The all-star could have injured the wrist while falling a couple of times or on one of his dunks during Tuesday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers,” Pompey writes in his recent article for The Inquirer.

Embiid, now 23 years of age, is certainly an important piece in Philadelphia's metaphorical puzzle. In his 55 games played with the Sixers this season, the Cameroonian-born center has racked up averages of 23.5 points on 48.6 percent shooting from the field (30.3 percent from beyond the arc), 11.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

Thursday night's matchup between the Sixers and Knicks is scheduled to tip inside Madison Square Garden at 7:30 p.m. EST.
