After spending the past year attempting to trade him, the Philadelphia 76ers ultimately declined their team option on Jahlil Okafor for the 2018-19 NBA season. As a result, the former third overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft will become an unrestricted free agent following the season.
With Okafor requesting a buyout, President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo has currently declined to comment on the team's decision. According to Keith Pompey of Philly Inquirer, the fourth-year center's most likely destination would be the Boston Celtics:
Assuming @JahlilOkafor did get a buyout, the #Celtics would be the most likely destination for the center.

Following a strong rookie season, it is an unfortunate situation for Okafor. As a result of Philadelphia drafting the best players available instead of best fit, he has been the odd man out with the emergence of Joel Embiid and head coach Brett Brown utilizing Richaun Holmes and Amir Johnson as his primary backup.
With the Sixers currently 3-4 to begin the new season, it will be interesting to see what happens with Okafor. As the relationship between the two sides will finally come to a definitive end via trade or free agency, it appears Colangelo and company are currently comfortable with not making a trade just to make a trade.
Okafor has only appeared in one game during this season, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds against the Toronto Raptors.
