This weekend, it was revealed that the San Antonio Spurs (32-19) will be without the services of small forward Rudy Gay a bit longer than expected. According to an article written by Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News, Gay is not expected to return to the Spurs' lineup until after the All-Star Break.

The 31-year-old forward has been out since late December after an MRI revealed retrocalcaneal bursitis in his right heel, which meant he would miss at least two weeks with the injury.

The Spurs have been absolutely ravaged by injuries during the 2017-18 season, but head coach Gregg Popovich has coached San Antonio. General Manager R.C. Buford spoke to the San Antonio Express-News earlier this month about what the Spurs were missing with Gay's absence on the court.

“We need what he can bring from a scoring standpoint offensively,” Buford said of Gay earlier this month. “There are areas that, when he plays well, we can really take advantage of.”

The Spurs are coming off their worst offensive outing of the season at home on Friday night when they were dealt an embarrassing 97-78 loss at AT&T Center. As many can imagine, coach Pop was the least bit pleased and said he wouldn't blame San Antonio fans if they asked for their money back because of the performance they witnessed.

“Philadelphia was great. They were physical. Brett's got them really executing well and playing with confidence and they did it at both ends of the floor,” Popovich said. “If I was a San Antonio fan tonight, I’d ask for my money back.”

In 34 games this season, Gay is currently averaging 11.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in roughly 22.7 minutes of action per contest.
