The NBA has taken a proactive approach and got in touch with teams to communicate their support for standing up to their beliefs, but at the same time, avoiding fan alienation.

Players have spoken and people are all eyes on how these influencers are going to walk their talk. Prior to the start of the preseason game featuring the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors, the Eastern Conference powerhouse became the first to make a gesture in relation to the national anthem.

It was just as the league had hoped for and how they hoped others would emulate. The Raptors sent a strong message, but at the same time kept it respectful.
