Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse has been sued by his former agent, Warren LeGarie, for breach of contract. LeGarie is seeking financial relief.

USA TODAY Sports' Jeff Zillgitt has details of the complaint:

“Defendant Nurse failed to do certain things required by the representation contract.

“Among other things, Defendant Nurse failed to abide by the terms of the representation contract, failed to pay Plaintiffs the amounts due under the representation contract, and failed to disclose to Plaintiffs the amount of the employment contract he entered into with the Toronto Raptors for the 2020-2021 through 2023-2024 NBA seasons, thus denying Plaintiffs the opportunity to be paid for commissions wed on Defendant NURSE’s employment contract for the 2020-2021 through 2023-2024 NBA seasons.”

The complaint states LeGarie began representing Nurse “in or around 2013.” 2013 is when Nurse became an assistant coach under former Raptors head coach Dwane Casey. LeGarie was supposed to get a 3% commission on Nurse's head coaching contracts and 4% on assistant contracts. Nurse took over as head coach for Casey in 2018 and won an NBA championship in his first season at the helm.

Shortly after the Raptors won the title, LeGarie claims he began working on a new deal for Nurse. However, LeGarie says Nurse breached his representation contract in the spring of 2020 after nine months of work on contract negotiations.

Nurse is now with Andy Miller, who's a part of Rich Paul's Klutch Sports. Nurse wound up with a new contract in September 2020, giving him a 2020-21 salary in the $6-8 million range and a four-year extension worth $32 million. This made him one of the highest-paid coaches in the NBA.

LeGarie wants his commission on the part of Nurse's new contract he claims he negotiated. LeGarie also represents Raptors general manager Bobby Webster.
