Diop entered the league as the eighth overall pick in the 2001 draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers and has played for four different franchises. He owns career averages of 2.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in 14 minutes per game.
The 34-year-old native of Senegal will assist the Jazz during practices and individual player workouts, video editing, and analysis. Prior to joining the team, Diop has honed his craft for two years with the Texas Legends of the D-League as their player development coach before being promoted to assistant coach last season.
Having extensive experience playing in the NBA, the 7-foot center is expected to be around Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert a lot, sharing a wealth of knowledge from his 12 playing years.
According to the Jazz, the coaching associate position was opened to “provide prospective coaches an opportunity to gain further experience in an apprenticeship role.”
