The Utah Jazz are looking to make some much-needed improvements to their roster this offseason. Meanwhile, guard Donovan Mitchell is hoping to make the roster for Team USA.

Mitchell was among the 20 players invited to be a part of the lineup for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. He admitted he is excited to make his case, via the Courier-Journal:

“Everything happens for a reason and it’s all about timing and I’m blessed to accept the invite but now I’ve got to go out there and work and make the team.”

Mitchell's excitement is certainly understandable. He has come a long way in a short amount of time in his NBA career. He had been overlooked going into the 2017 NBA Draft after being taken by Utah with the 13th overall pick. It did not take him long to establish himself as not only the biggest steal of his draft but arguably its best player after making a legitimate case for the NBA's Rookie of the Year award. He has further solidified his case with an even better sophomore campaign.

Mitchell will be joined by two of his fellow members from the draft in Los Angeles Lakers power forward Kyle Kuzma and small forward Jayson Tatum. The cast of promising, young talent may be the most inexperienced of the group, however, they will have an opportunity to show some of the more household names what they are capable of. Even if none of them make the final roster, it will be a good chance for Mitchell to get some work in with some of the best talent the NBA has to offer.
