Donovan Mitchell's rookie season was a revelation. Although he fell just short of the Rookie of the Year award to Ben Simmons, Mitchell looks like he's a budding young superstar.
While Spida Mitchell shouldn't need to worry about going back to school anytime soon, he still puts a premium on a good education. Mitchell spoke to students at Kearns High School about the importance of getting an education.
According to Jody Genessy of Deseret News Sports, Mitchell had this to say to the students:
Article Continues Below“You guys see me playing basketball, but … the opportunity that I've been able to have wouldn’t be there without education. Today I just wanted to give back to you guys for your hard work.”
Mitchell is giving back to the community in a big way. It's easy for kids to see someone like Mitchell and think that an education doesn't matter. But when Mitchell emphasizes the importance of an education, it can go a long way towards dispelling this myth to impressionable kids.
Mitchell wants the kids to focus on their education, but it's almost time for him to turn his focus to the 2018-19 season. The Utah Jazz are looking to take another step forward in a loaded Western Conference. They advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals last season before falling to the Houston Rockets in five games.
They return with much of the same roster, but if they're going to improve, Mitchell's development will play a big part in their success.
