The NBA’s announcement of the changes in the All-Star game format caught many by surprise, as many did not expect it to happen as soon as this coming season. It has drawn mixed reactions from fans and members of the basketball community, as it meant an entirely new makeup in the midseason festivity.

When former back-to-back MVP Stephen Curry was asked to give his thoughts about it, he admitted that it's a good idea, and that it will give the fans a chance to see some players team-up for the first time in their careers, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN.

“I think it's great for the game to kind of spice it up a little bit,” Curry said. “Give the fans a little bit more interest in how the teams are going to unfold. It's great to follow how the 24-man rosters are voted on by the fans and the coaches but now there's another element of mixing the East and the West and giving different combinations of guys out there on the floor. So it should be a pretty cool vibe to test it out and see how it goes.”

The Golden State Warriors star guard also answered the question of who will be his first pick if he ever get named captain of the Western All-Stars. He did hesitate to say that it will most likely be one of his teammates, in order for him not to “mess it up.”

“Probably one of my teammates. It would be messed up if it wasn't. That's kind of the cool thing about it, following whoever the two guys who are picking, how their rosters kind of take shape. It will probably be some tough decisions in there which I think would be good for the game.”

The starters will still be voted by the members of the media, players and fans, and one of them will be chosen to captain their respective squads. A draft will then occur between the two captains, similar to an old school playground pick-up game.

It may be fun to choose which players will form their teams, but the captain will also have a big responsibility on his shoulders, as he could also be blamed if his squad fails, and if there's not enough players for specific positions. The All-Star game will definitely be very exciting, and it will be interesting to find out how things will unfold as the event nears.
