Washington Wizards center Dwight Howard was linked to the Golden State Warriors this offseason, but he says winning a title in D.C. has more meaning. Howard has been a journeyman lately. The Wizards are his sixth NBA team, and The eight-time All-Star wants to create something special in his new city.

From Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington:

“I just think Golden State, they've won a couple championships in the past couple of years. So, me going there and winning it's like ‘well, you went to a team that's already won.'  In D.C., I think the last time the Wizards won they were the Bullets if I'm not mistaken. So, I think that impact would be bigger for the city,” said Howard.

The franchise's lone championship came during the 1977-78 season when they were the Washington Bullets. Howard has a chance to help John Wall, Bradley Beal and Otto Porter do something special this year.

Howard had an underwhelming year for the Atlanta Hawks during the 2016-17 season. However, he had a resurgence last year with the Charlotte Hornets. He averaged 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds for the Hornets. He also had a very healthy year, as he appeared in 81 games for Charlotte. The Wizards consider Howard an upgrade from Marcin Gortat, whom they parted ways with after this summer.

While Howard has struggled with some back injuries to start the preseason, his health will be critical to the Wizards making it out of the first round of the playoffs.
