Washington Wizards point guard John Wall has been out of commission for roughly eight weeks due to a knee injury. However, it sounds like the former University of Kentucky standout is on the path to recovery. In fact, he recently participated in two, full-contact practices, and is scheduled to go through Thursday morning's shootaround.

In a recent interview with NBC Sports Washington, Wall, now 27 years of age, noted that criticism from the media was a motivating factor in his recovery.

“What motivated you while you were out?” the reporter asked Wall during the interview.

“All of the stuff everybody was saying,” Wall replied with a smile. “Simple. Everything everybody was saying.”

“Why do you use what people say to make you a better player?” the reporter then asked.

“Everybody always has a perception of me,” Wall replied. “If I don't care about you, or don't understand what you're seeing, I'm gonna let you have that perception. But if it's people I care about — people that I rock with and I hang with — if that's the perception you have of me, well, let me change that.”

“That's why I'm always gonna be me and always stick to what I stick by,” Wall continued. “When I hear the media say certain things… yea, the media guy did his job, but I'm like, ‘You don't really know who I am. You're trying to sell a story. So let me change that perception for you.”

Wall has played in 37 games with the Wizards this season, averaging 19.4 points on 41.7 percent shooting from the field (35.8 percent from beyond the arc), 9.3 assists, 3.6 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks in 34.3 minutes.

The Wizards are currently the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference standings with a 41-33 overall record. They'll be back in action on Thursday, as they're scheduled to face the Detroit Pistons inside Little Caesars Arena at 7:00 p.m. EST. For now, Wall is listed as “questionable.”
