Washington Wizards point guard John Wall says he and his close pal, DeMarcus Cousins, talked last summer about teaming up in the nation's capital, but Cousins' injury prevented it from happening.
Cousins tore his Achilles tendon last season with the New Orleans Pelicans. Once Cousins and his camp were made aware that New Orleans wasn't interested in re-signing Boogie, the All-Star center started thinking about where he might play next.
Before reaching out to the Golden State Warriors, DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall talked about playing together on the Wizards. Wall says the talented big man wanted to play in Washington, but it just didn't work out in the end and Cousins ended up joining Golden State on a one-year deal worth $5.3 million.
“He did consider here,” Wall told Candace Buckner of the Washington Post. “Oh yeah, we talked about it. He definitely wanted to be here. He definitely wanted to come play but after that injury it’s kind of tough, like how much can you put into that?”
“We talked,” Cousins said, revealing the extent of the brief flirtation between himself and the Wizards. “Me and John talked. We talked. That’s it.”
The Wizards traded Marcin Gortat to the Los Angeles Clippers, so the team was in need of a starting center. Washington ended up signing Dwight Howard, but that move has already backfired. Howard has only played in nine games this season because of lumbar surgery.
Maybe the Wizards should have taken the risk of signing DeMarcus Cousins after all.
