The Washington Wizards believe Isaiah Thomas can help John Wall, not only by backing him up on the court but by also inspiring the All-Star guard in his recovery.
Wall has been sidelined since February because of an Achilles injury. He already underwent surgery, but he is expected to be out for the most part, if not the whole 2019-20 season. However, the Wizards are hopeful that IT can guide and support Wall as he recovers from the devastating injury.
“I think he inspires people. For someone like John Wall, Isaiah really helps us. He has felt exactly what John is going through,” Wizards acting GM Tommy Sheppard told Ben Standig of The Athletic. “(Isaiah) has been there. It’s a lot different coming from him, his story, his way of explaining, ‘Hey, John, this is what you need to do’ comes from a totally different angle than us. I think that’s valuable.”
Thomas is one of the most inspirational stories in the league. Besides the fact that he had a dominant stretch in the league despite standing at a mere 5-foot-9, Thomas has shown heart and grit on the basketball court.
Article Continues BelowIT has dealt with physical injuries that have nearly derailed his career. He also had an emotional trauma when he lost his sister during the 2017 playoffs. Nevertheless, Thomas has come back from both and continues to play despite all the adversities he faced.
Sure enough, IT is still looking to find his rhythm on the basketball court, but he should be invaluable for the Wizards and wall. If he can help Wall through his recovery mentally and physically, it might increase the chances that Wall comes back just as strong as before.
Hopefully, the two both heal quickly and make full recoveries. We can only hope to see a backcourt of Thomas, Wall and Bradley Beal return to their dominant ways.
