After the All-Star reserves were announced on Tuesday, the Minnesota Timberwolves received the attention they deserve as two of their players made the prestigious list. With Karl-Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler set to be All-Stars this season, they were able to replicate a feat that the franchise last enjoyed 14 years ago.
This year will be the first time since 2004 that the Timberwolves will have two players participating in next month’s exhibition game. The last two Minnesota players who did it were Kevin Garnett and Sam Cassell, according to Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune.

“The only other times the Wolves have had two players in the same All-Star Game: Kevin Garnett and Sam Cassell made it together in 2004, when the Wolves reached the Western Conference playoffs, and Garnett and Wally Szczerbiak made it in 2002.”
Towns and Butler are definitely worthy of the honor, as they have been playing at an exceptional level, teaming up to lead the Wolves to their current record of 31-18, good for third place in the tough Western Conference. This will be Jimmy Butler’s fourth time as an All-Star as he is having yet another solid season where he is averaging 21.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals in 36.9 minutes per game.
Karl-Anthony Towns, on the other hand, has been a force for the Wolves inside the paint with his rebounding and shot-blocking ability. He also has the touch to knock down shots from beyond the arc, making him a nightmare matchup for their opponents night in and night out. He is producing 20.0 points, 12.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 blocks per game and has continued to impress, as he gains more experience as a professional.
