Duke Blue Devils freshman and star basketball player Paolo Banchero was in the news for the wrong reasons last week, as he was involved in a DWI-related incident with his teammate, Michael Savarino. Banchero had yet to speak on the incident but that changed when the Duke star talked to reporters on Tuesday.

Paolo Banchero wasn't the one operating the vehicle but it doesn't matter. Banchero knows that he shouldn't have even put himself in that situation. However, it's probably not the greatest idea to say that there are “no regrets”, especially with what recently happened in the sports world.

These are tough situations for even a professional sports team to handle, so it's nice to see Banchero say that the team has, and is learning from it, a sign of maturity. While this is a lesson in how to handle oneself off the court, it could also be a lesson for Banchero on how to speak to the media, a critical skill if he wants to move onto the NBA.

Here's hoping that Banchero can learn from the incident, something he noted to the media. The Duke star will focus his attention to the hardwood, where Duke has won their first six games. With 28 points in Duke's win over the Citadel on Monday, Banchero has taken the first step in putting the incident behind him.
