Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark may not play for the Iowa Hawkeyes anymore, but she'll always be a Hawkeye at heart. Playing college basketball, the bond players develop with their teammates sometimes lasts forever. Some players may go on to play professionally while others follow different career paths. Such is the case for Caitlin Clark and former Iowa teammate Gabbie Marshall.
Marshall, who played alongside Clark at Iowa for the past four years, is not headed to a career in professional basketball like the Fever rising star. She instead will be attending the University of North Carolina where she will be pursuing a Master's degree in occupational therapy.
Gabbie Marshall recently took to social media to express her thoughts on her time at Iowa coming to an end, and Caitlin Clark posted a message of support of Marshall in which she said, “Forever proud of you,” as per ClutchPoints own Angelo Guinhawa.
During their time together at Iowa, Clark and Marshall played major roles in the Hawkeyes reaching back to back national championship games. During the 2022-23 season they lost to LSU in the title game while this past season they were defeated by South Carolina.
Marshall was a starter at Iowa for the past four years. She holds college career averages of 6.6 points per game, 1.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals with splits of 40.6 percent shooting from the field, 39.2 percent shooting from the three point line and 72.8 percent shooting from the free throw line.
Caitlin Clark's rookie season in the WNBA is underway

While Gabbie Marshall is off to UNC, the next chapter in Caitlin Clark's journey is her rookie year with the Fever. To nobody's surprise, the Fever selected Clark with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. For most of the college season, Clark was the overwhelming favorite for the to pick.
But Clark's transition to the WNBA has not been as smooth as some might have thought. To be fair, several prominent voices such as WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes and current Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi hinted that it would take some time for Clark to get adjusted to the league.
So far, it appears as if they were right. The Fever are currently 0-3 on the season and Clark has had a mixed bag of performances. The Fever have also lost each of those three games by double digits. In Clark's first game of the season against the Connecticut Sun, she dropped 2o points to go along with three assists and two steals. She had ten turnovers though and shot only 5-of-15 from the field.
In her second game against the New York Liberty, she had only nine points to go long with seven rebounds and six assists. She shot only 2-of-8 from the field and 1-of-7 from the three point line. In her third game against the Liberty as well, she did have 22 points to go along with six rebounds and eight assists. She shot efficiently going 9-of-17 from the field and 4-of-10 from the three point line.
While there are certainly going to be more growing pains this season, Clark has shown flashes that ultimately she is going to be alright in the WNBA.
