Former Memphis forward Tyreek Smith has found a new home after his falling out with the Tigers. The senior, who is represented by Young Money Sports, committed to Kansas State basketball on Monday.

Smith will redshirt this season and play for the Wildcats next year, via On3's Pete Nakos.

Smith's representative at Young Money Sports accused Memphis of not paying him his NIL money, as well as other “broken promises,” via Hitmen Hoops.

However, Memphis supposedly paid Smith $175,000, which was a third of what the two parties had initially agreed to, via CBS Sports' Gary Parrish.

This would mean that the program was on schedule with its payments.

Regardless, Smith will now get a fresh start after previously competing for the starting power forward spot at Memphis this season. The Louisiana native had been looking for a new home since October 20th, when he told Tigers head coach Penny Hardaway that he planned to step away.

Smith is the latest chapter in the Wildcats' recent transfer portal hot-streak. The program landed big names in the offseason, such as former Illinois guard Coleman Hawkins and former Kentucky big man Ugonna Onyenso. Clearly, players around the country respect what head coach Jerome Tang has built in Manhattan, Kansas, also known as the “Little Apple.”

Smith is almost guaranteed to play a big role in the rotation, as seniors like Hawkins (8.3 PPG), David N'Guessan (16.3 PPG) and Max Jones (10.7 PPG) may leave next season. Regardless, though, the 6-foot-6, 223-pounder will get playing time, as he's coming off a 2-23-24 season for SMU in which he averaged 8.2 points per game on an efficient 58.4% clip with 5.4 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and one steal.

Smith started his career at Texas Tech, where he played one season and spent another as a medical redshirt. The 24-year-old then transferred to Oklahoma State, where he played two seasons before going to the Mustangs in 2023. He then went to Memphis, but didn't play a game before now transferring to Kansas State.
