Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes got a big boost to their 2023 recruiting class by securing the commitment of star edge rusher Jayden Wayne on Saturday. In the process, the Hurricanes moved back into the top 10 of 247Sports' 2023 college football recruiting rankings.
Cristobal is putting together quite the class for the Hurricanes:

Wayne currently ranks No. 36 on 247Sports for 2023 and is No. 41 on the 247Sports Composite rankings. The 6-foot-5 edge rusher from IMG Academy in Florida was initially listed as a five-star recruit when he committed, though a change in the rankings dropped him down to a high four-star.
Five-star or four-star, this is still a big-time get for Cristobal and the Hurricanes, who beat out the likes of Georgia, LSU, Oregon and Alabama for Wayne. That's quite the list of heavy hitters. This comes after Miami got a legitimate five-star commitment from offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa.
With Wayne's commitment, the Hurricanes' 2023 recruiting class now sits at No. 9 at 247Sports. They have one five-star recruit in Mauigoa and then six four-star commitments. Given Wayne is right on the edge of being a five-star, perhaps he works his way back up to that status at some point.
Cristobal is putting in work after just getting hired back in December. Miami has been wallowing in relative mediocrity for quite some time now since the dominance of the early 2000s. While still consistently a bowl team, the Hurricanes haven't been in the mix for national championships.
Manny Diaz went just 21-15 in three seasons at Miami and didn't win any bowl games. Cristobal is trying to change the narrative and get the Hurricanes back on the national stage.
