The transfer portal is one of the biggest parts of the college football offseason, and now that it is June, the spring window has been closed for awhile, and rosters are just about settled. After losing head coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL, the transfer portal became an instant threat to the Michigan football team this offseason. Any time a head coach leaves, there are always going to be departures. All the Wolverines could do is control the damage, and new head coach Sherrone Moore did a good job of that.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh accomplished his goal of winning a national championship with the Wolverines, but he hasn’t won a Super Bowl yet. He has been close, and he is now with the Los Angeles Chargers working to achieve that goal.
Michigan football lost Jim Harbaugh, and a lot of his staff followed him to the NFL as well. Sherrone Moore is the new head coach for the Wolverines, and he did a good job early in the offseason with hires to fill out his staff. There have been obstacles, like two coaches arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, but Moore has his staff.
Not only did Michigan lose a lot from their coaching staff, but the majority of their starters from last season are gone, too. The Wolverines are coming off of a national championship, and that team was so good because of all the NFL talent that they had. Michigan had a chance to break the record for most players drafted by a single school at last week’s NFL Draft, but they came up a few picks short. Still, they lost a lot of talent, and that made the transfer portal situation even more crucial.
The Wolverines did a good job controlling the damage. There were departures, but Michigan didn't lose that many potential starters. The first window of the portal saw Keon Sabb leave for Alabama, and that one stung. However, the spring window wasn't as bad, and the portal also goes both ways. Michigan lost some good players, but they are also bringing in some new talent. Here is one player that has a chance to make a big impact next season.

Josh Priebe, OL, Northwestern
Josh Priebe is a Michigan guy as he grew up in Niles, Michigan, and he is now coming to play for the Wolverines after transferring over from Northwestern. The Michigan football team is losing their entire offensive line, so Priebe is going to be the most experienced player out there. Because of that, he is going to have a chance to make a big impact on this team.
Last season, Josh Priebe went third team All-Big Ten (coaches and media) after having a great senior year. Priebe allowed zero pressures on 46 blocking snaps against Rutgers last season, and he allowed zero pressures on 61 passing plays against Minnesota. He had a big season, and he is going to be a crucial player for the Wolverines in 2024.
There are some talented players coming to Michigan football from the transfer portal, but none are in the position that Josh Priebe is in. This team has had the most dominant offensive line in college football for the past three years, and now they are starting from scratch. Priebe has a big opportunity in front of him, and the Wolverines need him to have a big year.
