The Minnesota football team squeaked by the Iowa Hawkeyes in a close game. Neither offense showed up as the final score was 12-10 (which isn't surprising given the over-under), but the game was full of controversy afterward. Late in the fourth quarter, the Hawkeyes returned a punt for a touchdown to take the lead — or so it seemed. But, the punt return was called back due to an invalid fair catch call, which sparked plenty of buzz online during and after the game.

However, Minnesota football head coach PJ Fleck shut down such controversy and stated that the fair catch call was right based on the rules, per Kane Rob.

“There's nothing controversial about it. Offsides if offsides. A false start is a false start. A hold is a hold. An invalid fair catch signal is an invalid fair catch signal…Everyone thinks that an invalid fair catch is above your shoulder and has to look like a fair catch, but that is not a part of the rule.”

The Minnesota football head coach also mentioned that, if anything is to be brought up, was the fact the play should've been blown dead, to begin with:  “The only thing that should have happened, I'm not a referee nor am I blaming anyone, but it should have just been blown dead right then and there. Don't even let that play happen because it doesn't exist.”

The rule is the rule, as Fleck mentions, and the Iowa football team lost the game in heartbreaking fashion due to this call.
