What were you doing at the wonderful age of 17? You were unlikely starting at quarterback for Old Dominion as they entered a game against Virginia Tech on Saturday. That much, I feel pretty confident in making a blanket statement about.
Steven Williams is a quarterback who played in the second half last weekend. He performed admirably in his first big time action, hurling it around the field for 139 yards passing and two passing touchdowns in only two quarters of relief work.
He is only 17. Not even old enough to buy a pack of smokes, go to a club, or whatever else comes with being an “adult.”
Williams, it was confirmed earlier this week, will remain under center this weekend against Virginia Tech.
Again, Steven Williams is a 17-years-old gunslinger who will be making his first college start against the gosh slam Virginia Tech Hokies.
Article Continues BelowIt’s believed that Walker, at 17 years, nine months, is the youngest ever to start at quarterback at the highest level of college football. This is not yet confirmed, as there are eras of football marred with horrible history keeping.
Only a 2-star prospect out of the 2017 recruiting class, Old Dominion has a ton of confidence in the kid.
“At 17 years old, he has to become the defined leader of this organization,” ODU head coach Bobby Wilder said according to the Virginian-Pilot. “I personally think he has the ability to do it. … He’s very dynamic. There’s a lot of things he does well.”
“I’ve been thinking about it over the past week, and I can’t imagine myself as a starting quarterback at 17,” redshirt junior wide receiver Travis Fulgham said. “But I think he can do it. That’s what’s crazy about it.”
