Jaxson Dart replaced an injured Kedon Slovis for the USC Trojans in Week 3 and ended up piecing together an eye-popping debut at quarterback.

The USC freshman threw for 391 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Washington State and it led interim coach Donte Williams to speculate about an open competition for the gig. Now that won't be the case.

Per ESPN, Dart underwent surgery for a meniscus injury and will be out indefinitely.

USC freshman quarterback Jaxson Dart had surgery to repair a meniscus injury and will be out indefinitely, a source confirmed to ESPN on Thursday.

Three-year starter Kedon Slovis is expected to start against Oregon State on Saturday.

Dart replaced Slovis during the Trojans' 45-14 win at Washington State last Saturday after Slovis was knocked out of the game during the opening drive because of a neck injury.

When whispers of an open competition for the gig surfaced, Slovis shrugged it off and noted that he was excited for his fellow USC quarterback.

“I’m not really focused so much on that,” Slovis said. “I’m excited for him, he had a great game, and honestly that’s what we expect. He’s a great player, great quarterback. He showed that all fall camp, and I’m excited for him and what he’s done for our team.”

Slovis will now undoubtedly slot back in at the QB1 spot for USC as they get set to take on Oregon State on Saturday and try to make it two wins a row.
