The Brooklyn Nets' big three of Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving were pretty adamant that their current core stays intact. According to a report from the New York Daily News, amid trade talks between the Nets and the Washington Wizards in dealing guard Spencer Dinwiddie, Brooklyn was not willing to include center DeAndre Jordan as part of the package thanks to his relationship with Durant, Harden, and Irving.
The deal that ultimately sent Dinwiddie to DC wasn't simply, to say the least. As per Kristian Winfield's report, the move to bring the 28-year-old from Brooklyn to Washington ended up being a five-team deal that involved Russell Westbrook's blockbuster move to the Los Angeles Lakers as well as teams like the Indiana Pacers and the San Antonio Spurs.
Jordan, who's approaching the third year of his four-year contract with the Nets worth $40 million, wasn't going to be part of that complicated deal. Despite his production being quite limited during last season, it's clear that what the former All-Star brings to the table goes way beyond that stat sheet.
With Jordan's long-time partner Blake Griffin also coming back, the front office is choosing to prioritize team chemistry as they try to make build around their incredible big three comprised of Durant, Harden, and Irving.
Coming into the 2020-2021 NBA season, the Nets were favorites to win the title and the mid-season acquisition of James Harden from the Houston Rockets made them a clear front-runner. But, with injuries taking their toll on the Nets, they ended up being inches short of moving forward to the ECF with a tough seven-game series against the eventual champs the Milwaukee Bucks.
