Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving talked about his relationship with Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James after the Nets lost to the Lakers on Thursday.

Irving says he learned a lot from James during their time together on the Cleveland Cavaliers:

“We do have history. I think that the magnitude of our relationship extends way beyond the floor,” Kyrie Irving said about LeBron James, via SNY.

“I'm just appreciative. I've learned so much from that guy, and to see what he's doing at this age and this many years in the league, he's consistent, and that's a great player right there.”

Irving and James, were teammates for three seasons on the Cavs. The duo went to three straight NBA Finals, winning the 2016 title over the Golden State Warriors in seven games.

Irving then shocked the basketball world in the summer of 2017 when he requested a trade from the Cavs. Uncle Drew supposedly wanted to escape the shadow of James.

Last season, Irving revealed to reporters in Boston he called James and apologized for how he acted in Cleveland. The All-Star guard learned first-hand this season how hard it is to be a leader of a team.

The Nets are 18-25 on the season. They are in 8th place in the Eastern Conference standings, but just 2-8 in their last 10 games.
