The Brooklyn Nets revealed earlier this week that Ben Simmons would be undergoing surgery to repair his injured back. It was a surprise announcement after it was expected that Simmons would play in the Nets' first-round playoff series against the Celtics, though he never ended up featuring as the team got swept. After undergoing the knife on Thursday, Simmons took to Instagram to update his fans and let them know everything went as planned.

Via Simmons' Instagram story, the recently-acquired Nets star let fans know that the surgery was a success and thanked his supporters for their well wishes.

The timetable on his return is expected to be 3-4 months, putting him on track to return in time for training camp, at which point he'd join up with his Nets teammates in hopes of making his debut at the onset of the 2022-23 NBA season.

Simmons was acquired by the Nets at the 2022 NBA Trade Deadline in a massive deal that saw James Harden dealt to the Sixers. Simmons had been holding out from the Sixers, refusing to play for the team after growing unhappy in Philadelphia. He was also dealing with a back injury while sidelined, which is what prevented him from suiting up upon joining the Nets.

Nets fans are still eager to see their prized trade deadline acquisition make his debut for the team and barring any setbacks in his recovery from this procedure they should get their first chance to see him in action in October when the 2022-23 season gets underway.
