Iman Shumpert is now off the market after the Brooklyn Nets signed him on Saturday to reach 14 roster spots, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The 30-year-old swingman last played in the NBA for the Nets in 2019-20, where he averaged 4.2 points and 2.6 rebounds in 13 appearances. He was not an efficient shooter last season, knocking down just 32.8 percent of his shots from the field and 24.2 percent from downtown, but Brooklyn is hoping he can help shore out their defensive efficiencies at the moment. Previously, they also signed Norvel Pelle to a non-guaranteed deal.

Shump already has some history with two members of the Nets' Big 3, having won an NBA title with Kyrie Irving as members of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. He also had a brief tenure with the Houston Rockets in 2018-19 and is quite familiar with James Harden.

The Nets, meanwhile, still have one roster spot to fill, as that massive Harden deal pretty much decimated their roster. The team is reportedly keeping an eye on Andre Drummond in the event that he gets bought out by the Cavs.

Iman Shumpert, meanwhile, likely won't get significant minutes under Steve Nash's tight rotation. However, his ability to cover multiple positions and his locker room presence is still valuable for a Brooklyn team looking to make it out of the much-improved Eastern Conference this year. The 6-foot-6 defense-first guard is expected to join his team shortly but won't be available to play pending the league's COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
