Kevin Durant confirmed during Friday's press conference that he will indeed not play during the 2019-20 season. Rumors of a potential return at some point before the end of the season were quickly shut down by Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks, only to be backed up days later by Durant himself.
“Me and Sean have been in contact since day one, so if he says it, then it came from me,” said Durant. “We came together and made sure that was the message. Any time he comes out here and says something, you don't have to ask me right after him, because I'm gonna say the same thing.”

Marks left the door open with his statement, saying that Durant would have the ultimate say on when he wants to come back — though it seems he has no immediate plan for a return to the court.
The 30-year-old star tore his Achilles after 12 minutes of play in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, consequently ending his season after missing more than a month with a calf strain during the postseason. Most NBA executives expect Durant to sit out for the entire year and actually go through a full offseason of workouts before taking the court again, which might just be the right approach with so many new faces in the roster.
While Durant recovers, it will be Kyrie Irving's job to sail the ship straight and possibly make some waves in the playoffs, making Durant the last missing ingredient for a championship-contending team.
