Kevin Durant is not one to mince words. Whether you love or hate him, it is hard to argue the fact that KD is always blunt and straight forward. Durant strengthened that narrative with some recent responses to fans questions on Twitter.

Durant first answered a question about what goes in to determining who the best player in the NBA is.

Size for position, shotmaking, efficiency, IQ, consistency, being able to guard multiple positions, a wiling passer, coachable, energetic…in my humble opinion

He followed that up by dropping a brutally honest take on NBA player rankings.

Top 10 lists disrespect the beauty of the game, ima stop doing these. I feel like “the best” fluctuates, there are so many talented players who produce at a hall of fame level every night. It’s exhausting figuring it out.

Ranking players is an art that the media, fans, and even players partake in. It is entertaining and exciting to decide who the top 10 players are in any sport. But Kevin Durant has a point in his statement.

The NBA is full of extremely talented players. There is a reason lists such as these can fluctuate at rapid speeds throughout a season. One game or series has the potential to make or break a players standing in the top 10.

Let's take a look at the recent Mavs and Suns series for example.

Luka Doncic cemented himself as a top 5 player in the NBA with his otherworldly effort against Phoenix. Meanwhile, many people would probably leave Devin Booker out of the top 10 after he disappeared in game 7.

But imagine if it was Luka Doncic who had labored and Devin Booker led his team to victory with an outstanding performance. There is a very strong chance that we would be calling Booker one of the best players in the NBA right now.

So Kevin Durant's point makes sense. But people are still going to indulge in rankings because they are fun. Rankings help fans determine who the best players are. The rankings debate between LeBron James and Michael Jordan has been going on for years now. And everyone seems to have a passionate opinion about who is ranked number one of all-time.

But hey, if KD doesn't want to do rankings that's fine. He is going to continue to play at an elite level and let others do the rankings for him.
