The Brooklyn Nets are set to host the Cleveland Cavaliers Tuesday night in their Play-In Tournament matchup.

Less than 12 hours before the game, chaos erupted in New York. A gunman on the platform of 36th Street and Fourth Avenue subway station threw smoke grenades into a northbound train before opening fire. The man shot at least five people on the Manhattan-bound N train, according to NBC New York.

Nets power forward Kevin Durant said that he saw officials responding to the scene on his way to the Nets facility Tuesday morning. He described his experience and reacted to the crime. ESPN reporter Nick Friedell tweeted KD's reaction.

Durant described the crime as a “devastating” act of “senseless violence.” He extended his prayers for everyone involved.

The incident occurred at 36th street, about 2.7 miles south of the Barclays Center, where Nets vs. Cavs tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The subway train continued to move northbound, and victims got off at 25th street, roughly 2.1 miles from the Nets' stadium.

As of noon Tuesday, no suspects have been apprehended, and it is still an ongoing investigation. Witnesses described the man as approximately 5'5″, wearing a gas mask. According to the NYPD, 16 victims from the attack are being treated for their injuries. Of the 16, ten suffered gunshot wounds.
