Kyrie Irving, James Harden and the Brooklyn Nets pulled off a hard-fought victory on the road against the Washington Wizards with a little help from the sidelines.

As the tight Wizards-Nets game approached the last five minutes of the fourth quarter, Kyle Kuzma had a routine pass go off his hands and right into the lap of Brooklyn's Kessler Edwards.

Kuz was furious and there was some initial confusion as to what exactly made him so upset. But upon replay it was discovered that Nets assistant coach David Vanterpool actually deflected the pass as it was heading towards the Wizards forward, forcing him to lose possession and getting the Nets an unearned stop.

The fact that the Nets escaped with a 1-point victory, 119-118, just makes the play that much more significant. The Wizards were a couple of missed shots away in the dying seconds from pulling off the comeback win on their home floor.

Perhaps they would have scored on this altered possession and changed the trajectory of the game in the process?

But deflection or not, the Nets fully earned the win in this one. Kyrie Irving led the way with 30 points and seven assists flanked by James Harden's 18 points and nine assists. LaMarcus Aldridge filled the void for a third star with 27 huge points off the bench.
