No one expects the Brooklyn Nets to make a serious run for the playoffs this season, but Kyrie Irving still wants his team to compete during games. His declaration that the team needs one or two pieces to win games after their loss to the Philadelphia 76ers should make things interesting in the Brooklyn locker room.

ESPN's Tim Bontemps got to talk to the guard and asked what the Nets should do to compete in the midst of not having Durant in the team due to the injuries he sustained. His response to the question raised a couple of eyebrows.

“I mean, it's transparent,” Irving began. “It's out there, it's glaring, in terms of the pieces we need in order to be at the next level.”

Kyrie Irving then reiterated that the roster went through injuries left and right but emphasized that a couple of acquisitions will make the team a contender. He sounded off the names of players who will likely stay with him and Kevin Durant next season.

“I feel like we have great pieces, but it's pretty glaring that we need one more piece or two more pieces that will [complement] myself, KD, DJ [Deandre Jordan], GT [Garrett Temple], Spence[r Dinwiddie], Caris [LeVert], and we'll see how that evolves.”

The most noticeable omission from Irving's statement was Joe Harris. The sharpshooter, who suited up for the USA during the 2019 FIBA World Cup, has been a fantastic piece for Kenny Atkinson's Nets this season. He's averaging 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists on 47% shooting and 36% from deep. It may be accidental, but this omission may mean that Harris may be on the trading block to acquire those pieces Irving needs for his team to win.

It's hard to tell how well the Nets would have fared if they have Kevin Durant on the roster. However, it's sure Uncle Drew is not happy with the way the team is set up. If the Nets want to keep him happy, then they might make a move before the trade deadline.
