Kyrie Irving isn't exactly the most beloved figure in Bean Town. The Brooklyn Nets star spent two rather underwhelming seasons as the headliner for the Boston Celtics.

With his new squad now holding a commanding 2-0 lead over his former team, the Nets star was asked about his return trip to his forming stomping grounds.

“Hopefully we can keep it basketball, no belligerence, subtle racism, people yelling sh-t from the crowd.”

If it still happens?

“It is what it is,” the Nets guard told the New York Post's Nets reporter Brian Lewis.

The Celtics faithful haven't been bashful in showing hostility towards Irving in the past. The Celtics had some high expectations when Irving came over, but they never seemed to get close to the ceiling that seemed promised from the start. Irving often made the wrong kinds of headlines, with plenty of off-court issues making the news. His jump to the Nets obviously did no favors in clearing his reputation in Boston.

As he told The Athletic's Alex Schiffer, it's not his first time going back to play in Boston. But clearly the playoffs are a different animal. With their team looking toast through two games, Celtics fans may have some anger they'd want to express with Irving as the potential target. But I'm sure as long as the Nets come out victorious in the series, Kyrie Irving won't have any complaints.
