For Brooklyn Nets star Spencer Dinwiddie, 2020 will be ending far from what he has imagined. After just three games, the 27-year-old will be out for the remainder of the 2020-21 season due to a torn ACL which will require surgery.
Dinwiddie broke his silence after the season-ending injury and took to his Instagram account to air his thoughts on overcoming odds in his young basketball career.
“Let me walk y’all down memory lane for a second. January 12th 2014 against UW I suffered an injury. Massive amounts of pain and shock in A non contact full tear of my ACL.” the Nets guard narrated on his IG post. “Those trials built the focus and fortitude to go from a second round pick to a g league cast off to the 20ppg leader of a playoff team, earning the respect of my peers along the way.”
An ACL injury is nothing new to the California-native. He tore his ACL in his junior year playing for the University of Colorado and many thought that his basketball career was done right then and there. Three months after his career-threatening injury, the Nets rising star declared for the 2014 NBA Draft. Since then, he has worked his butt off to be where he is right now.
“So in summary If anything I’m excited because I’ve made a living off beating the odds. And these odds say AT WORST I’ll be more than 100% by next season,” Spencer Dinwiddie added.
A lot was expected of Dinwiddie on his seventh season in the league. He's coming off a career-best year, averaging 20.6 points per game and 6.8 assists in 2019-20. For now, Dinwiddie will have to watch his Nets from the sidelines and start working on another strong comeback.
