Earlier reports have suggested that Kyrie Irving could be somewhat softening his stance against the COVID-19 vaccine. The assumption is that if he gets vaccinated, the All-Star point guard will be allowed to rejoin his team. For Brooklyn head coach Steve Nash, however, he would much rather keep his expectations in check.

It was also reported that Irving could be more amenable to receiving a plant-based vaccine, which is currently not yet available for public consumption. Nevertheless, the big takeaway here is that Kyrie appears to have kept an open mind, or perhaps all the pressure is getting to him at this point.

Whatever the case might be, Steve Nash isn't quite ready to get all excited just yet. Right now, the first-year coach would much rather operate under the presumption that the Nets won't be getting Kyrie back anytime soon:

“We just focus on our group and getting better every single day and if we get the gift of his return, we’ll be ecstatic but we can’t count on it,” Nash said, via Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. “We can’t wait for him. We have to get to work, and get better.”

As he said in his statement above, the Nets would welcome Irving back with open arms as soon as he is eligible to return. However, Nash believes that it could be dangerous to rely on this possibility, which at this point, still sounds distinct at best.
