New Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash believes Lionel Messi, and not Cristiano Ronaldo, is the best soccer player ever.

Nash, who is quite good at soccer himself, says Messi is “leaps and bounds” better than anyone else, per Billy Reinhardt of Nets Daily.

If there are any Nets fans who are die-hard Cristiano Ronaldo stans, they may be upset with this take from Steve Nash. The GOAT debate between Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is kind of like the NBA GOAT debate between Michael Jordan and LeBron James. Each player has fans who will go to their grave defending their favorite player.

While Nash's soccer takes will dominate the news cycles for a little bit, Nets fans are more concerned with how the two-time MVP is going to do in his first year as a head coach on any level. Brooklyn is expected to be title contenders in 2020-21 since the team will have two All-Stars leading the way in Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, along with a good supporting cast, which is headlined by Spencer Dinwiddie, DeAndre Jordan, Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allen.

Things may not always be smooth for the Nets next season since Nash is a rookie head coach and Durant and Irving have never played with each other. However, it would shock a lot of pundits if the Nets don't at least get to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals with KD and Uncle Drew dominating on the court and Nash and Amar'e Stoudemire coaching from the bench.
