Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr sent his well wishes to Steve Nash for landing his first coaching gig with the Brooklyn Nets. The former Warriors player development coach responded and thanked Kerr for the opportunity to win alongside the three-time champion coach in the Bay Area.

Nash and Kerr go way back before teaming up on Golden State's coaching staff. In 2007, Kerr became general manager for the Suns, when Nash was the face of the franchise. He held that gig until the 2009-10 season, which turned out to be Phoenix's final postseason appearance since.

Many people were certainly shocked and surprised when the news came out that the Nets hired Nash as their next coach. The eight-time NBA All-Star did not have any previous coaching position at any level prior to landing the Brooklyn gig. As mentioned, perhaps the closest he came to such a role was when he served as Golden State's player development coach.

Nonetheless, many regard Nash as one of the best basketball minds of all time. The former two-time league MVP was a savant on the court with his high IQ and ability to see plays develop before others do. Thus, despite not having any coaching experience, Nash is still very much qualified for the job.

Moreover, he also developed a relationship with Nets star Kevin Durant when both were with the Golden State Warriors. Considering Durant is the franchise cornerstone, this could have been one of the factors why Brooklyn brought on the Canadian guard.

The Nets essentially took the 2019-20 season off with the injuries to Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Brooklyn should become one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference next season with two superstar-level studs leading the way, while a Hall of Famer leads them on the sidelines.
