Las Vegas oddsmakers peg Tyronn Lue as the favorite to become the next head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, according to Greg Logan of Newsday.

Lue currently serves as an assistant coach for Doc Rivers with the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Nets shockingly fired former head coach Kenny Atkinson last week. For now, Jacque Vaughn is holding down the fort as interim coach.

Nets general manager Sean Marks said that the decision to part ways with Atkinson was mutual.

Other reports claimed that some Brooklyn players soured on the 52-year-old, who led the Nets to the playoffs following a three-year stint as a lottery team. Rumors also floated that Brooklyn's star acquisitions of the summer, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, did not click with Atkinson.

Irving has history with Lue, though there are conflicting reports about Kyrie's desire to reunite with the coach. Lue and Irving won a championship together with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. Now, it's looking more possible that they will have another opportunity to work with each other again in Brooklyn.

Lue's coaching stint in Cleveland ended on a sour note when the Cavs fired him six games into the 2018-19 season, nearly four months after LeBron James left for the Los Angeles Lakers.

In the three seasons prior, Lue posted a coaching record of 128-77 with Cleveland. His run with the Cavs included three Finals appearances, including that historic title win in 2016.
