The Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns have been largely considered as the frontrunners to land Kevin Durant; however, there is a surprise team emerging as a dark-horse suitor for the Brooklyn Nets star: the Washington Wizards.

Durant is a Washington, D.C. native, so the connection is there. Going back to DC and playing for the home crowd doesn't sound a bad idea at all, especially as KD looks to solidify his legacy even more.

Now according to Sam Amico of Hoops Wire, Durant going to Washington is possible as the franchise could make a “major push” for the superstar forward.

Several sources even have told Hoops Wire to keep an eye on the Wizards, who could make a major push. Durant is a DC product, too. He may not be upset about playing at home alongside Bradley Beal.

Of course the next question is who would the Wizards package in a trade for Kevin Durant. Aside from the massive haul of picks that the Nets are asking for any KD deal, they also want young rising stars and superstar-level players in return.

As things currently stand, the Wizards could trade the likes of Kristaps Porzingis, Rui Hachimura, Kyle Kuzma, Deni Avdija and Corey Kispert. However, it is unknown if any of those players will intrigue Brooklyn and convince them to send Durant to the nation's capital.

For now fans have to wait and see what the Nets will do with Durant. They have significant control of his destiny, and it's expected they'll move the forward once they get the best offer.
