All 32 teams will be quite busy in the next few hours as the NFL trade deadline approaches. With a 3-4 record, it appears the San Francisco 49ers are in need of some roster changes to salvage their campaign.
The 49ers have made huge midseason deals in the past, including acquiring star quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo from the New England Patriots in 2017. Now, it seems things have come full circle for Niners coach Kyle Shanahan, who was instrumental in getting Garoppolo, as he could definitely use more help for his QB.
Shanana, however, doesn't expect the front office to make a big splash at the NFL trade deadline (via NBC Sports).
“There's always the possibility, those guys talk through everything. I’d be surprised if we did. Those trades aren't always as easy as they seem. That's why I think there's a lot of talk through all 32 teams, but when it comes down to it, there's not many that actually happen.”
While he acknowledged that their roster has holes, he emphasized that it's also important to think in a wider sense instead of thinking of shoehorned solutions.
“We're open for stuff that we think that could help us now, but we don't want to do that to the expense of hurting us in the future and there’s a lot of things that go into it. So I won't say never, but I'd be surprised if something that happened.”
The 49ers will next face the mighty Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
