The 2018 NFL Draft is chalk-full of potential talent at the quarterback position. However, there has been speculation regarding former Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson's future under center.

Jackson is the quintessential dual-threat quarterback. As a result, he has already started to receive comparisons to former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kordell Stewart, according to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero.

“I got a different comparison from two scouts I talked to last night who both said Kordell Stewart. You go back to the Steelers from the mid-90s. They had Stewart in a bunch of different roles. He earned the nickname ‘Slash' by playing different positions. You've got to be creative with a guy like that.”

The comparison between the two certainly isn't a stretch. Much like Jackson, Stewart made his mark in college football with his rushing prowess. Upon entering the NFL, he was then used as a swiss-army knife for the Pittsburgh Steelers as a passer, runner, and receiver. His ability to play all three positions even earned him the nickname “Slash”.

However, Stwart was eventually able to assume full-time quarterback duties by his third season in the NFL. That said, many envision Jackson taking the same path as he did early on in his career.

It goes without saying that Jackson is as electrifying a player as there is in this draft. However, his struggles with accuracy and lack of experience under center raise questions as to how long it will take him to progress. The former Heisman Trophy winner has already been unfairly typecast as purely a running quarterback. As a result, it remains to be seen if he will get a legitimate shot to develop in his true position at the next level.
