Orlando Brown using terrible Combine performance as motivation

Offensive line prospect Orlando Brown is looking to use his terrible Combine performance as motivation for the 2018 NFL Draft and beyond.

The NFL's Scouting Combine provides a platform for future prospects to boost their value in the 2018 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, for those like Oklahoma left tackle Orlando Brown, all it did was drastically hurt his draft stock.

Brown had been pegged as one of the top offensive lineman prospects before an abysmal outing at the Combine left him out of the recent discussions. However, according to ESPN's Jake Trotter, he is hoping that teams will focus more on his game rather than the measurables:

“Measurables are measurables, and that’s what the general managers and the head coaches and scouts use, and it’s understood — you can’t knock it,” Brown said. “You’ve got all these guys, they’ve run 4.9s and been successful. But you’ve also got guys that run 4.9s and been bad. I think I’m an unusual prospect, the way my film is and my unusual testing. Yeah, it’s a pretty big deficiency. But the film speaks for itself. Hopefully these NFL teams look at that and recognize who I am, . . . and understand what I can do at the next level.”

The former All-American had been pegged as a potential first rounder going before the Combine. However, he quickly dropped out after posting the slowest 40-yard dash time, the shortest broad jump, and the smallest vertical while his 12 reps on the bench press were the worst of his position group. Although he managed to improve his numbers slightly at Oklahoma's Pro Day, there is little optimism that he can regain the momentum he had earlier in the year.

That said, these measurables are hardly a determining factor in whether or not a player will be successful in the NFL. Furthermore, there is some merit to the argument about his body of work in college. It also helps that he has gotten the full support of quarterback Baker Mayfield, who is projected to be a top pick in the draft.

Regardless, it is clear that Brown is ready to prove the naysayers wrong should he ultimately wound up dropping out of the first round.
