It has been widely speculated for months that the Arizona Cardinals are preparing to make quarterback Kyler Murray the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. With the draft quickly approaching, it appears that may no longer be the case.

Rumors have been swirling about Arizona's plans for quite some time now. According to CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco, the Cardinals will be looking at other options:

“Initially, the ownership pushed for Kyler Murray, that much I know, I was told that. The reason they did is they are having a hard time selling tickets. Well, they put it out there. Arizona was lukewarm to it. So now, all of a sudden, they are pulling back and from what I’ve been told, they are going to go in a different direction. They are not going to draft Kyler Murray.”

This is certainly an interesting development regarding how the draft order may ultimately play out. It is no secret that the Cardinals are in the midst of some significant changes. The writing seemed to be on the all throughout the entire offseason that they were ready to part ways with quarterback Josh Rosen and start fresh with Murray.

Of course, there were still several factors to consider in Arizona's potential drafting of Murray. They would first need to find a suitable trade partner for Rosen. Unfortunately, it does not appear as though the second-year quarterback has drawn enough interest to garner a worthy batch of picks in return. The Cardinals still have a number of other voids to fill on their roster. It will be interesting to see if they do indeed decide to go in a different direction in the draft.
